Governance Structure
The Institute of International Social Development is governed by a structured framework that ensures strategic direction, academic excellence, and operational accountability. The governance architecture comprises the General Assembly, the Executive Council, the Director-General, and the Scientific Committee.
General Assembly
The General Assembly is the supreme governing body of IISD, composed of all founding and regular members. It convenes annually to approve the Institute's strategic plan, budget, and annual report. The General Assembly elects the Executive Council and the President, and amendments to the Institute's statutes require its approval.
Executive Council
The Executive Council is the principal decision-making body between General Assembly sessions. It oversees the management and administration of the Institute, approves programmes and projects, and ensures the financial sustainability of IISD. The Council is led by the President and includes the Vice-President, Secretary-General, Treasurer, and elected members.
Director-General
The Director-General serves as the chief executive officer of IISD, responsible for the day-to-day management, implementation of programmes, and representation of the Institute at national and international forums. The Director-General is supported by a team of department heads and administrative staff.
Scientific Committee
The Scientific Committee provides academic and intellectual guidance to IISD. Composed of distinguished scholars, researchers, and practitioners in international relations, social development, human rights, and related fields, the Committee advises on research priorities, academic standards, and programme quality. It reviews research proposals, evaluates publications, and ensures the intellectual rigor of all Institute activities.

Dr. Rajyashree Chaudhuri
Founder of IISD and a leading figure in international social development, with extensive experience in NGO governance and UN engagement.
Director-General

Vice-President
Supports the President in governance and strategic leadership, with particular responsibility for institutional development.
